Ugh...Graphics Card fried?...

Post by TNaismith on Thu 11 Mar 2010, 7:29 am

I'm going to type up a message for the forum, and then in the middle of my work, the entire monitor starts going crazy with blinking lights and squares, and a few seconds later the air in my room quickly becomes filled with the smell of something electronic burning up/giving off smoke.

I immediately shut the system down, leave my room, wait a few minutes, and then open up the inside of the computer. Taking a look at all the parts, I finally spotted something really weird on my graphics card. Apparently, some small silver cylinders standing upright had cracked at the top. I took it out, inspected it closely, and then took the following pictures:

I assume my graphics card just fried/exploded?

Warranty = 2 years

Graphics Card = Bought in 2007
Current Year = 2010

Warranty is gone. >.< That graphics card was a Nvidia GeForce FX 5500. It had pixel shaders and allowed me to play most of my games. Now without it, the only thing I can run on my computer without crashing is notepad and really basic programs. xD

Savage does not work now. Random exploding video cards...ugh...

I have the same card in my older computer. I recommend you to get a new AGP card because they are dirt cheap at the moment, and then you can run XR without lagging.

I gues you needa get a new card. (dueh). It must suck not being able to do anything. But it could helkp to go to a computerstore and show ur card, maybe ur motherboard dent a to hight signal, so let that check to (you dont want a brand new cad to get fried)
