Meaning of Nicknames

Post by Rumo on Tue 19 Jan 2010, 9:29 am

Hey guys,

I don´t know if there is already such a topic, whatever..

Wanna ask you if your nicknames got any meanings or smth., because some of them don´t make any sense Razz

Well, I explain my nick: Rumo

Rumo is the mainhero of my favourite book "Rumo und die Wunder im Dunkeln" (= in english: Rumo And His Miraculous Adventures) by Walter Moers (every book of him is a fantastic one btw).
This book fascinated me so much that now every nickname of me is Rumo. Razz

Explain yours...

Re: Meaning of Nicknames

My nickname is also based on a character from a book. The book was called "Young Miles", and the main character was a boy named Miles Naismith Vorkioswagon (Or something like that), and he did some crazy things that eventually led to him going from a student at a space academy school to a mini-commander of a space fleet in three months. He earned the named "General Naismith". When I read it a few years ago for the first time, it sounded like a very inspiring story, so I always had that name in my mind before I started gaming.

When I first started online gaming, I used Naismith very carefully for browser-based games, but then I decided to start playing serious games like Savage and other games. So I made the decision to create my own unique nickname using "Naismith" as the foundation, and then adding a "T" to the front (Because I want my last name to one day start with a T). So thus, I got "TNaismith". I did some google searches on it, nobody seemed to have used it for gaming, and there was no definition for it in dictionaries.

Once I began to use TNaismith for games like Savage and others, it eventually stuck, and I use this nickname almost everywhere I go.

Not much meaning though Smile

P.S : My name is old fashioned and I should change it. It sucks!

Tushaar was a player in Tribalwars.net and we founded a tribe together and lasted long time there. He was an arrogant fellow, he always knew what he was doing and though he sometimes stood against me, the tribe founder, i still respected him, and he is the only person besides TNaismith i have ever respected on the internet.

xD Wow, lots of interesting stories behind the names here! I was always wondered what the GP in front of your name stood for Michi, and Nero is based off a name reversed backwards? Interesting stuff here. xD

Re: Meaning of Nicknames

Post by bbog on Wed 20 Jan 2010, 7:07 am

maybe you saw my topic in Personal Info maybe not
it's very simply
when i installed my first computer game(NFS: Hot pursuit2 in 2003) it needed to write my nickname
i was confused:P
tried name and surname - too long and it sounds "very bad"
then decided to take first letter of my surname "B" and 3 letters of my name "BOG"
i was so happy "I have my own nickname!!!" BBOG sounds good to me and i like it:)
but on forums i used another nicknames like bogdan or bla_bla_bla, bla_bla_bla-vw_t2(vw t2 = Volkswagen transporter t2 my first car:P). i didn't want to use bbog on forums because of meaning "bog". in Russian 'bog' means god:)
but when i joined savage i saw that there are a lot of random nicknames. every nickname i wanted to have was in newerth stats and repeats a lot of times. and then i remember that i have my own nick in single player's games-bbog and decided to use it:)
of course there were a lot of jokes from my Russian and Ukrainian friends about bog(god) in my nick and i had to explain it to everyone why it is.
but sometimes it is fun when i am failing and comm says "oh my bbog:P"(oh my god:))

Re: Meaning of Nicknames

Post by hlupaco on Wed 27 Jan 2010, 1:46 am

hloupy = stupid in czech (adjective)
hlupak = stupid man in czech (subject Very Happy)
hlupak -> hlupaco, its some silly mutation of word hlupak, but its not commonly known, just in my class we invented it with friends (Very Happy) and it was few days before I started with Savage, so I got that nick...
btw its pronounciation (sry idk how to write it just way how you say it Very Happy) is [hlupa:tso], not [hlupakou]

hlupaco
